You may photograph your lure and Trolling Angles will show the photo in several places to make it easier to identify your calibration. A small version of the image is presented on each line of the Calibrations List, and on the Edit page, and larger image is shown on the Trolling page. If you have not added an image for the calibration, then an icon is shown in its place.
Photo images originate as normal photos taken with the camera or images anywhere on your phone, and are converted to lower resolution compressed “thumbnail” images. The original images are not used by Trolling Angles once the thumbnails are imported. The thumbnails are stored separately in the private application data area of the Trolling Angle app. They are backed up by the Apple or Google platform along with other app data like the calibrations, and may be deleted if you uninstall Trolling Angles. Images are not backed up and restored by Trolling Angles backup/restore/merge.
You may use the same image for multiple calibrations, which would be appropriate if you have multiple calibrations for the same lure but with different speeds, weights, or lines.
The Lure Image Screen

On the Edit page, press the lure’s image or icon to go to the Lure Image page. A large image of the photo is shown at the top of the the Lure Image page. If the calibration does not yet have a photo, an icon is shown instead.
The bottom of the page shows a scrollable list of thumbnails already held by the app.
To add or change the calibration’s image, you can select one of the thumbnails already held by the app, take a photo of your lure/rig, select any other image available on your smartphone or other accessible cloud location, or clear the image.
Use an Existing Thumbnail
To use an existing thumbnail image, simply select the image in the list.
Take a Photo
To take a photo, select the camera icon . Trolling Angles turns control over to your smartphone camera. Place the lure and rig on a neutral background, and take the picture. The camera will place the photo in the normal directory for photos on your smartphone, with a name that is derived from the calibration’s lure name. Then, Trolling Angles will create the thumbnail and present the Import page, where you can change the calibration’s lure name, and/or change the lure photo file name. When you Import it, the thumbnail is stored in the photo list, and is set as the photo for the current calibration. At this point, you may delete the original high resolution photo from your phone, or keep it.
Use an Existing Original Image
Similarly, to use an existing photo, press the Image Library icon , to use the File Picker to browse your smartphone files and select your image.
The app will then create the reduced resolution thumbnail image and show the Import screen.
Import Dialog

In the Import Dialog, if you change the calibration’s lure name, and submit it with a return key, the photo file name will be automatically changed to correspond to the lure field.
If you have a lure image that has been copied into your smartphone’s global clipboard, the the clipboard paste button will create a thumbnail and let you import it.
Capturing an Image from a Web Site
Here is a process to capture a high quality lure image of a new lure from the web.
- Outside of the Trolling Angles app, use your smartphone camera to scan the UPC code bar from the lure’s box. The phone will present a browser search result showing manufacturer or retail locations for your exact lure. Perhaps it will even show you the lure with the same color pattern.
- Drill down to a good image of your lure, and with a long-press, depending on the web site, you may be able to download the image to your downloads directory, or to your photos library, or to copy the image into your clipboard.
- Then you can use the Trolling Angles photo File Picker to select the image, or to paste it into the Import dialog.
- Before importing it, while you have the web site in your browser, also copy the lure’s official name into your clipboard, paste it into the lure name field of the Import dialog, and submit it with the return key before pressing the Import button.
Note that unlike Google Chrome, the iPhone Safari browser apparently does not allow you to copy and paste images to the app, but you can download and pick them.
Clear
To clear an image, use the icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen. This will ask you to confirm that you wish to clear the image from the calibration, and if the image is no longer used by Trolling Angles, will let you delete the image from the app’s data.
Manage the Thumbnail List
The info button for each item in the list of saved image thumbnails shows the list of all calibrations that use the image. If the image is unused, a trash can icon
is shown, and you may press it to delete the image from the app.
